for me its all about the rack. I look at his shoulder when i'm shootin and thats about the only attention I pay to the body. I am not a meat hunter so if i stumble across a small bodied buck with a big rack there will be lead in the air....

I forgot who it was but they had a signature that said, " Meat last a year, but the anlers last a life time." I always like that phrase. Bobby

I pass on many does and many bucks. I prefer having my son, Joe getting his shots. When a large racker swings by and Joe is not present then I start slingin. Other than that I scout year around for our mutual benefit.

I guess I have to say I am an antler hunter. A 120 pound, 160 class buck walking under my stand would make my heart beat a whole lot faster than a 300 pound spike. If I'm in a real need for meat, i'll just shoot a doe or two.

Problem here is you can only shoot 1 buck (if you even get a tag-you get it 3/4 times) ANd you can apply for a doe tag but the odds of getting it are you will get the tag once for every seven times you apply.
If I want more deer meat I'll shoot a few extra does.

Well, we have a low deer population yes, But if you get the right tags, you can shoot some of the biggest mulies out there.
Also, I live in a great community that is full of people of my faith, and to find that outside of Utah is just about impossible!

Only your instinct knows. We're not allowed to shoot does, but if a buck with another 30 to 40 pounds of bacon on him is running along side of a lighter buck with better horns, you don't have to worry because the decision will be automatic. Human nature will greedly take the bigger buck every time. Now if the bucks are just standing around (private property) then who knows what one might do.
