my opinion i have only eaten mule deer twice and it seemed a little tougher to me but it could have been the way it was prepared, both are good though, just a little tougher and the mule deer was a large 4x4 buck i tried

I live in Utah and all we have are mulies. I have also done a bit of whitetail hunting and I find that the meat is no different from one another. I don't know about black-tail but I would assume that it would hold the same.

Never had blacktail, but I had muley once and did notice a difference between that and whitetail, both in smell while cooking and taste! I prefer whitetail, personally.

I shot a mulie this year, and I have to say I like whitetail better. Doesn't smell as much when cooking, and has a better taste.

I didn't have a chance to hang the mulie. I cut it up and froze it the same day as I shot it. I usually let whitetail hang for at least a few days, so that may have had something to do with it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't disslike mule deer. But elk is much better.

I can only speak of the difference between Iowa whitetails
and Arizona mule deer....and there is a huge difference[].
It's hard to describe the difference, however all friends and
family agree the mule deer tastes much better. I'd have
never guessed that to be the case??? I've been told by
some long time bowhunters of both species that soy beans
leave a bit of 'after taste' in the whitetails. Whatever it is,
even my sister-in-laws and my mother love the mule
deer...and will not touch any whitetail venison.

Beef is better, without question.
Oh, we're talking about mulies vs. whitetails... that's right. I've never had Mule Deer so I'd have to say whitetail is better. [&:]
