Congrats Groundhunter, sounds like you made a good decision picking the 7mm[8D].
Dropped in its tracks[]! I thought 7's are known for poor bloodtrails and deer fleeing after the shot hehe...poking fun at the thread that was on the gun forum a while back[&:]

I must admit I was suprised when she just dropped. I finally got tired of shooting and blood trailing, shoot and trail, shoot and trail.....
No trailing today!!!! A well placed shot equaled no meat loss........
My count is 2 bucks and 1 doe. We still have 5 days of gun season left........

congrats GroundHunter on your succesfull hunt !!
have to agree with skeeter 7mm- no trail- no drop in tracks-ha-ha -- I'm not pokeing at skeeter 7mm, just the thread he was refering too.
from what ive seen they do make it posible for one heck of a blood trail.

Congrats on your success! I love my 7 mag. I purchased it before the 02-03 season and since I got it I am 8 for eight, 8 shots on deer 8 dead deer. I am buying a new rifle this year and it is going to be another 7 mag.

i've used a 7mm rem mag for 4 years now hunting whitetails. I have only had one deer that didn't drop on the spot and that deer made it about 80 yards. As for tracking that buck that made it 80 yards it had looked like someone had spray painted the trees and snow from about 4 feet down with red paint for the whole 80 yards. It was just a wall of blood. A blind man could have found that deer. In my opinon the 7 is a great gun and i haven't had any troubles with knockdowns or blood trails.

Shot placement is much more important than caliber every time. Every deer I have shot with my 257 Roberts and 6.5x55 have dropped in their tracks as well. Thats about 35 so far.
