RE: 7mm or 300?.....need to buy today!!
Groundhunter you won't regret buying the 7mm rem mag, it is an excellent cartridge. So is the 300 winnie for that matter, flip a coin cuz they will work very well for what you want is all I am saying. In your case you liked the feel of the 7mm rem mag and I think you already had your mind made up, so my feelings is you did the right thing...being happy with your own desicion. For deer you can stuff anything you like through it, 140-150 BT bullets have worked extremely well for me on deer. For a elk or moose hunt look at the 140-160gr filsafe or parts, both will work very well out of the 7. Many others as well, so find the right ammo for the job and let the gun do the talking!;)
Treedog I think what he was saying, is their shouldn't be a difference. I agree though some do complain about a difference in power vs POI and it does seem it is in the cheaper scopes. However other factors can be involved too. This shouldn't be what you expect in scope though, I dial mine in at 10 X on the range but often hunt at 6-8 x and there are no changes to POI...that is what you should get/expect from your scope. As far as scope the rifleman I have no experience with but it is the bottom of the line for Loopy, so don't expect or even compare it to the upper end scopes. I have always believed scopes are worth every penny, however I don't own all the best scopes it just isn't feasible for me or many. However you should buy as much as you can for the rifle it is topping and base it on it's use. If it is your primary hunting rifle then I would say spending more will never be a bad decision...just my 2 cents. I would try out the scope you have and if you want more than go from there. Lots of good scopes out their, I would agree wait for the Leupold VX III as it has many upgrades which will bring it in line with the zeiss conquest and such(if you want a loopy). Plus I think you'll find some sweet deals on the Vari X III which is no slouch. Any way good luck with your new rifle:) |
