It's not that I don't believe you trophy, but I wanted others feedback as well. At that point you were the only one that said 300.

Hey Trophyhuntr:

I got the same scope on my .270 and I enjoy getting the extra 10 minutes of daylight, too. In fact, I popped a doe this year at 6:11 PM and 30 minutes after sunset was 6:15 PM. I could still see great.

I don't about the scope being off at low power, but I sighted mine in at 12x and it's accurate at any setting, except when there is 'operator' error.

Unless it was a 7mm-08 or some special 7mm like the short action 7mm ultra mag, I'd go for the .300!

I HAVE THE REM 700 BDL IN THE 300 ULTRA-MAG CALIBER AND JUST LOVE IT IT IS VERY ACCURATE.

Thanks for all the feedback.....

After further review of ballistics (check the Federal website) I decided to go with the 7mm......

Personal preference, as the two rifles are extremely similar and the 7mag just felt better.

Thanks again.....

Between the two it would be a toss up to me as I have never owned either, but the 7mag shows a tad better ballistics in some departments.
As far as the scope deal goes it doesnt matter what power you set the scope on, the cross hairs never change so it cant be off, they are just as fixed as fixed sights, only your eye would be focusing, does that make sense ? I do notice the the higher end scopes operate better in low light conditions and tend not to fog or condensate outside the lens and look clearer when they are set at high power such as 14,16 or 20 power. I have a bushnell banter 6x18x50mm and it doesnt impress me like my old Leopold did, it actually pissed me of a time or two.

Id go for the 300 mag. 150grainers for deer and 165 or 180 grainers on elk, moose. If you can afford a 500$ scope wait till the NEW Leupold vx-iii's come out this year. Do you handload?

Id have to disagree, ive read MANY reports of the cheaper scopes having difrent poi's (point of impact) at difrent magnifications. Im not saying its only in the cheap scopes but that seems to be where most the complaints are.
