formula 1 forgot to mention the WMA hunts. These are above and beyond the usual and you may ordinarily take one buck and one doe per managed hunt per management area.

Here in Massachusetts we can take two bucks and how ever many doe permits you own. In my zone (zone 10) you are allowed to by 1 permit per day once they go on sale. I plan on picking up 3 doe permits this year which will give me a total of 5 deer. That's plenty of meat in my freezer this year. Take care, Scott.

You guys are correct that bucks shot on WMA's can be in addition to the 2 bucks allowed. So it is possible to shoot more than 2 if you hunt on WMA's and manage to get a buck. I don't hunt on WMA's anymore, so I forgot about that. Come to think of it, I've taken advantage of that rule before as I shot a 8 point on a WMA quota hunt and also got two (7pt and spike) on private land a few years ago.

We can get 7 deer total in NY.

doe or buck with bow
buck and up to 4 doe (with permits) in gun season
buck or doe with muzzleloader (doe if buck or doe with bow or doe if buck in bow)

so i guess the answer is 3 buck
