Mid West Large Bucks

The glacier story is true. I learned about it while in engineering school.
It does sound like that could help grow some big bucks----apperently I live in the middle of a mineral block.

It sure would be nice to live in the Midwest with all of the big deer.....oops, I do live in the Midwest. Ok, Nebraska is just too far west of the line, but it looks as though the larger deer are gradually moving west and south. Maybe there will be a chance to see some huge B&C bucks in the books from here in Nebraska. I saw 2 really big bucks checked in the year from down around Fremont, but a little too far south, 2 miles, of the edge of my hunting territory. The biggest problem is that people in Nebraska just don't seem to care what their buck measures. I harvested a nice 4x5 a couple of years ago and never even had it scored even though my taxidermist thought that I should. My guess is that it would be somewhere between 110-125, but again, that's a guess.

I want to strongly disagree with the statement that the south will soon be catching the north on big rack production. Deer have been treated like an agricultural "product" in the south for a long time. As that trend (food plots, QDM) becomes more prevalant in the north the record books are going to be flooded. Most 3 yr old deer in the north score 130 or better and most 4 yr olds score around 150. That is about "average" here in WI. If more herd management is done the north will only extend the lead. Look at Buffalo Co. Wisconsin. QDM is very strong over there and is spreading quickly. I lease 160 acres in the center of the state that is part of a 1600 acre block with a 120" minimum and only one buck can be taken per 80 acres per year. Food plots are being planted and does are being harvested. All I can say is, "Look Out". A 168" buck was taken last year and that was only the second year of management. Good genes, good soil, good food, and now good management, that is why the midwest produces the big racks.

Just in my place alone, I saw 50+ pheasants this year. Call me crazy, but I still haven't hunted them there. I want to get a lot more of them. I also have access to another 3-400 acres that is loaded with them.
