Default Killed button today

It was raining this morning and since I dont relish sitting in the rain, I decided
to go my 8 acre piece of land which I own but dont live on. I have a pole barn
in the woods so I figured I would just sit inside the doorway and hope for
something to come by. Well about 8:00am a small deer hopped into
view just 5 yards in front of the door. I didnt have much time to react
so I decided to take it. It turned out to be a button.

I dont really like to kill buttons, but my freezer is empty and he will be some
good eatin[:-] He probably didnt even go 95 lbs.

I will be out for a biggun at my main huntin hole in the mornin.

It happens. About 4 years ago I killed one that came in late. It was a single deer just before legal shooting hours were over in thick woods. I knew it was a deer and assumed it to be the 8 pointer I had seen about 45 minutes earlier. It dropped in it' s tracks and turned out to be a 75 pound button buck. I hated that I had killed it but that was some of the best meat I' ve ever had.

I kinda did the same thing opening weekend, I was still hunting in 40 acres of pasture and had turned around to start back when I saw what I thought were 2 does on the other side of a ravine but ended up being a little buck chasing a doe, they were headed in my dirrection but further up the hill so I ran to intercept them and one ended up running up to me within 20 yards broadside,I reacted and shot with the 1st thought that it was a doe, only to see the forks as it turned and ran,I had 1 buck tag and 2 doe tags so it doesn' t matter, its good venison, but had I waited a second longer and seen the forks I probobly woulda let him go to get a little bigger.
Anyway, theres nothing wrong with shooting a fawn, seems all of our deer this year had twins, I purposly shot bambi this year and let the doe and the other fawn go, just cause we have so many tags available and there are so many of them out there, plus its some great meat, just takes a few of them to fill the freezer.

I don' t shoot any thing that I don' t plan on hangin' on the wall until 2 weeks into the season. Then I' ll start shootin' does but usually the bigger ones out of groups. I' d be pretty upset to shoot a potential trophy deer for venision, but I guess it could happen to anyone.[:' (]

I am a meat hunter only. I got a nice size mule deer doe last week. I have two tags left one is an Any Deer and the other a antlerless muzzle loader tag.

Did the same thing on the opener of blackpowder. Went in with a doe in mind. A pair came through a shooting lane, shot the one I had a good shot on. Turned out to be a button, I was dissapointed as well. Good meat in the freezer, though.

Hey dont get me wrong, I am very happy to have bagged a deer.
Ive went 3 years straight without getting anything, not even a shot at anything.
The part that I left out of the story is that after the shot I jumped up to
see where he was headed and there were 4 others behind him running
away(of couse). No racks in the bunch but 1 looked like a pretty fat doe.
If I had only waited.......But then again, Ive waited before and got nothing.
So I am happy and proud of him anyhoo
