Your 2023 deer season
#44
So far it has gone ok. I filled my archery tag with a doe and filled my buck tag during rifle season. Ml season starts next Saturday and I have a doe tag to fill. I like 2 deer in the freezer each year so a successful season even if I don't fill the ml tag.

Just out of curiosity I laid a shed antler I found a couple of years ago beside the antlers from this year's buck. They are eerily similar. The shed has a couple of extra small points but the basic shape is damn near identical. What are the odds the shed is from the same buck? I found it about a half mile and across a deep ravine from where I shot the buck.

Got the first meat of the season, with my trusty .350 legend Winchester. Perfect forward quartering high shoulder exploded the spine and fragmented through the lungs, she dropped like a stone, thank goodness. It was just about to get to dark and finding her would have had to wait till morning if she had gone more than 20 feet. 125 lbs, a good size doe for Alabama.

I start tomorrow morning. Frankly, I'm not all that prepared. A death in the family turned things upside down, so there wasn't time for zeroing the scope or setting up stands. Soooooooo.,,,, I'll be stillhunting with a Savage 99, iron sights.
