Shot this eight point last evening but the hit was a bit marginal and I didn't want to push the deer in the dark. Tried to find it this morning but after a couple of hours with no luck I finally called a local member of United Blood Trackers. His dog Sadie found the deer after about two hours. It was her first deer recovery. What a treat to watch her work. It was in an area on my property where I had some timber cut two years ago so it was no easy task. Lots of tree tops and brush. The deer went about two hundred yards downhill before piling up in a small stream. No blood until the last fifty yards or so.

I was using a Scorpyd Death Stalker 420 crossbow with Gold Tip arrows and Shwacker #261 broadheads. It was about a thirty yard shot but the buck jumped forward at the shot so the hit was a bit farther back than ideal. The Shwacker did it's job though. Crazy thing was that the deer fell right in front of one of my other stands which you can see in the upper right corner of the photo.

Those antlers would be perfect for rattling. Good tine length for harmonic resonance. It's always been my own personal opinion that an old buck can tell the difference between those store bought plastic junk and rattlin bags and other BS gimmicks but not only that but I think they can pretty much tell if it's a big boy or not just from the sound. They don't get old and big from being stupid.

That’s a shame that he had died and no one found him until you wandered upon it. I am glad you found him. He has a real nice rack on him..
