I don't know about you guys, but in my world down here there is no way a mature buck would be just laying around in the wide open like this buck. No way you could get to within 45 yards of a mature buck lying in the wide open without a whole lot of cover between him and the hunter, which obviously there wasn't. It looked like he was conveniently laying in the wide open right behind the camp or house. There is quite often a lot more to a video than is seen.

The link below is a short very interesting article on shedding of antlers and reasons for early and late shedding. I think you hit it in that buck was semi tame and was used to living close to those homes and didn't feel that the guy was a big threat as long as he was up where he was.

Very true that you never know how animals are going to act. I was just on another website and a guy posted several pictures of elk feeding in his back yard. Many were nice bulls and he said the cows will come right up and eat the alfalfa right out of his hand, but he won't let those bulls get that close!
