Default First firearm deer season for me.

I got my first ever shotgun permit for deer. Yahoo!

Now, I' ve heard it can get a bit crazy hunting public land during gun season.
I' ve bowhunted for several years, scouted the place out, and so forth, but never been in the woods for gun season. I' ve got my orange, got ammo that patterns well, practiced with it, and know how to be safe out there making sure I don' t shoot anybody and doing my best to let other hunters know where I am as soon as I know I' m not alone, especially after dark.

My questions are:

-Would you rather be in a tree or on the ground when slugs are flying?

-Do the deer really run around all day trying to get away from the gunfire?

Ive never hunted public land. but i both sit on the ground and in a tree during shotgun season. Yeah you have a chance to see a deer anywhere from sun up to sun down. sometimes they come in packs and some time they dont come at all. but yeah, dont worry about wearing orange, wear as much as possible so people can see you, better to be busted by a deer than get shot. good luck and have fun, i know i will.

By me it can be like being in a war zone, you hear guns to the left and right. Last year I had 2 deer almost run straight into my blind since they were running so fast they didn' t see me. I also hunt with my 30.06 that fist day in PA and leave the shotgun home.

It' s great and the deer do get pushed around. The people I know say it' s better to stay put that first day and let the other hunters push the deer to you. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn' t, either way, it' s still a fun day out in the woods.

Good luck hunting....

I' d say that it is probably safer to be in a tree stand during firearms season. Not many people have to shoot upwards at a deer...., seems a whole lot safer up there.
