By adding weight to butt of the stock(that's where I'm assuming you guys are talk about adding it) Wont it through off the balance of the rifle ?..., especially with a 20" barrel.

It sounds like you are way over thinking this. Cart ahead of the horse so to speak. Why don't you have the boy shoot the gun and find out if it is too much for him to handle. With that light a bullet, there should not be excessive recoil.

There are reduced recoil loads in 7mm/08 as well. My daughters had more issue with the total weight of the rifle than they did the recoil, so adding weight to the stock may result in an issue with accuracy if a free hand shot is required. Just a thought for you to consider.

I agree. I just bought my grandson a .243 it has little felt recoil with a factory cartridge 100 grain coreloct bullet, and I mean very little. You are talking about the same cartridge necked to 7mm with .20 grains more bullet weight. There should be very little felt recoil.

I could be ! He did shoot it with the ttsx 120s on the 1st go around , it slightly bruised the shoulder. Maybe he didn't hold it tight enough. Poi was 3 to 4 in. High.

Then we shot the managed recoil . (I couldn't tell the difference) he said he could tell.
Then those shots were about 2 in. lower. (Still high, but better)
I don't trust the 50% load.

The 150gr. Power shok 3006 I used last year left a small exit on a buck.

I'm going all copper. I'm just a student at this point. Thanks for the replies.

Default Muzzle brake?

How about a muzzle brake? Making the gun heavier may throw him off even more? I have a brake on my 7mag, dads 300wsm, 45/70, 300 win mag and a browning boss on a .338 Win Mag. Of course they make it louder and will ring your head in a box. But it's worth it in my opinion.

I'll have to look into that, it's a vanguard s2 , I'll have to see if one could be installed.
