Default Rain and Deer Movement

How does rain effect deer movement? It is supposed to rain this Saturday in Iowa for early muzzleloader and I was wondering if it might make the deer move more, less, or no change at all.

Depends on how hard its gonna rain, if a hard or steady rain they will probably stay put and not move much. If you gonna have a drizzle or a light rain it shouldnt bother them much. Good Luck with your hunt

Some of my best hunting has been immediately after a long, steady rain. Don' t miss hunting on days when it has rained most of the previous night. You won' t be sorry.

I love to hunt in a light drizzle rain. The deer around here really get to moving in a drizzle. I have actually sat through a heavy down pour until the rain backed off to a drizzle and killed a nice 7 pointer. If it doesn' t last long I will sit and deal with the misery of getting soaked for the chance at a nice buck. Thats why they make rain suits for us. Just be sure to have yours if the weather man is calling for rain.

I hunt in South and North Dakota and the seasons are in November so you ain,t apt to see any rain. However snow may act the same way and as long as there is not much wind with the snow they seem to move pretty well.

Some of my best hunts have been in a drizzle or a light rain, it really doesn' t
seem to bother them, here in Texas we like it because it tends to lower the temp.

On rainy days, I beg my wife for the extra hunt!!! For me it never fails, the hunting that is. Damn honey-do list gets longer during September through January.

To me, there is absolutely no doubt, that the best time to hunt is right after it has rained hard for at least a day or so. It seems that every deer in the woods is up and about immediatley following a hard, steady rain.....You may see more deer moving in a light rain, but once it gets windy and nasty it seems that all the critters in the forest hold up. I usually relate deer movement to the movement of other animals in the forest. If the squirrels, chipmunks, fox, coyotes etc are moving, you can bet the deer will be, for the most part.

I hunt blacktails and my best hunts have been in the rain. Blacktails don' t like to be in the trees when it rains. It gets them up and out into the more open areas.

I will be hunting in Central Iowa. Doen not look as though it will rain hard or all day long. A cold front should move in Friday night. My experience is that you usually see more deer movemement before and after a front.
