The beam tip is also counted as a point,
From VAhuntr's boone and crocket link.

However, the beam tips are the 5th and 6th points on this particular buck. They would have been the G3's had the buck not lost it's original beam tips in some type of injury. That's the way I see it from the photo. No way that buck is currently an 8 point....no question it was at least an 8 point before.

To the OP, you have a fine looking buck and one I would have been proud of too!

G3s are G3s. They don't become the main beams. A scorer would measure the main beams as main beams and measure the G3s as G3s.

If you can count 8 points on that buck you are seeing something I don't.

But hey I like your scoring system. :party0005: All my 8's just became 10's and so on and so forth!

I don't understand why you can't see the main beam as a separate point. G3s do not grow out of a deer's skull. They grow off of the top of the main beam. You can't have G3s without a main beam.

Here are your 8 points. You don't have to have an inch to count the main beam as a point. Main beams are mearured from the burr to the tip.

Do your 8s have G4s?

I see what you are grasping at but I don't think an official scorer would see it that way. Had I shot that buck, which I would have, I'd have told everyone about the awesome 6 point I killed. I would have been darn proud of it too!

If you want to believe that go ahead, be my guest. Had I shot that buck, which I would have, I'd have told everyone about the awesome 6 point I killed
It's not about what I believe. Boone and Crockett or Pope and Young would score that buck by first measuring it's main beams. They would be the first two measurements. They would also measure the G3s. Those 4 measurements would be on the score sheet. The only difference would be the main beams would measure a few inches shorter.

In order to score it as a 6-pointer, it would not get any credit for the G3s. That's not going to happen.

I would say a 7pt.....and a very nice deer with plenty of character!!
