"Hanging a ring on it." doesn't mean squat! A point has to be 1" or better to be a point!
|
This is right from the B&C Scoring Sheet on their website:
A: NUMBER OF POINTS ON EACH ANTLER To be counted a point, the projection must be at least one inch long, with the length exceeding width at one inch or more of length. All points measured from tip of point to nearest edge of beam as illustrated in Figure A. Beam tip is counted as a point, but not measured as a point. ***I hope this paragraph puts this thread to rest, but I'm not counting on it!!! |
I think the confusion is from "official" and "How it's always been done." If I shot that buck and told my buddies I shot an 8 point, they'd laugh at me to no end. However it would be officially scored as an 8. I would call it a 6, and I've always wanted to shoot a big six like that.

With 6 points. Gotta agree with you on the official scoring, cannot deny it's an 8. But to 98% of hunters out there, that's a 6 point. And that's what really matters. Mostly. Some of the time.

8 better describes what this buck is. So I call it 8. :)
