Human urine and deer

I've been seeing a lot of posts from various sites about people making there own scrapes and then peeing in them with great results. What I haven't seen is any evidence to back this up. Some even go as far as to say that human urine works way better than doe estrus lure and every other lure on the market. Tomorrow It's going to be really windy here in VA so instead of hunting I am going to go make my own scrapes and pee in them. I will place cameras on these scrapes and will post the results after a few days. I have a lot of bucks on my property so I should be able to get a definite answer on whether or not this actually works "Here in VA anyways"..

I've never seen deer react one way or another to human pee. I'm guessing that any hormones that would attract a buck in doe pee wouldn't be present in human pee. I would think that any attraction would be just curiosity.

BarnesX.308 11-18-2013 04:01 AM

I have started scrapes with my own pee and put trail cams over them. Got bucks the first night.

Personally, I think real human pee beats old, bottled deer urine.

There's lots of pee in the woods. Deer, bear, coyote, fox, bobcat, turkey, fishers, porcupines, etc... Human pee is just another pee. Sure, the chemical composition is different, depending on diet, but deer are not doctors with copies of the urinalysis report from the lab. They know it's pee and it may smell a little different.

Bullcamp82834 11-18-2013 04:04 AM

Deer usually either don't pay any attention to human urine or are a little curious about it . I don't think making your own scrape and peeing in it will do any good.
I've known guys who would carry an empty bottle in the field to pee in because they didn't want to pee on the ground and leave scent. I consider that unnecessary.

X2 on that Bull.

NEhomer 11-18-2013 04:23 AM

What are you gonna "load" up with ken?

Coffee? Tea? Beer?

:lmao:

kenified06 11-18-2013 05:44 AM

Theres some coffee and a little old beer in there haha

Freerorbust 11-18-2013 08:38 AM

Well I am interested to see how this end up lol

Wilcam47 11-18-2013 08:45 AM

well I didn't have a camera on a small scrap I found but I pee'd on it just to see if it made them leave the scrape or what...I noticed they still scraped at the spot...so for what I saw the buck prob just thought another buck was there...

Bullcamp82834 11-18-2013 09:14 AM

I was once so enamored of a girl that I found a tree in her yard with a good licking branch and made a scrape under it. Peed in it and everything just to let other guys know that it was my territory. Rubbed a few small saplings too. That hurt.

After they let me out of the mental ward that girl married me.

Sometimes making your own scrapes pays off.

When in Rome...Do as the Romans
When in the Deer Woods...Do as the Deer.

nchawkeye 11-18-2013 10:12 AM

I prefer to pee in already made scrapes, then refresh with about a third of a bottle of Tinks 69 and spray Buck Bomb on the leaves in trees in the area...

What I'm trying to do is keep the bucks on my property and returning to the area...This has worked for me for many years, although years ago before Buck Bomb I would also hang scent dispensers with Tinks in the area...My buddies would say I had the area smelling like a whorehouse...I've killed many good bucks this way...

During the last week in October, we killed 5 mature bucks in a week by doing this...

kenified06 11-18-2013 02:36 PM

I made a few scrapes and put out the urine today. I made one spot on a logging road that a lot of deer use to enter the field... The wind is really going strong but I sat in my shack and watched this evening anyways. 7 deer came down that road through the course of the evening. 2 Spikes, 2 big does, 2 yearling does, one button buck. All 7 deer walked right past the spot I made and didnt act if anything was there at all. So I can say this. With these 7 deer, human urine did not attract or scare them. Got the camera sitting on the scrape so we will see what happens when some decent mature bucks come around it.

I piss out of my stand constantly and also spit Copenhangen on the ground. I can't tell you how many deer I've had walk right under me and never change their stride.

ChasinTail 11-18-2013 10:04 PM

I always tried to wait to pee when I wasn't near my stand. A while back I read about the pissing in mock scrapes thing and tried it. Worked every single time. Even in spots where there was no visible deer sign.

Actually just made one the other day after leaving one just because I had to pee. Made a small one and came back the next morning and it had been hit and there was a new scrape right beside it. Also made one under a small cedar just to see if they'd make a scrape on one because I had never seen it. Put a camera on it. Waited 3 days. Returned and they had hit it and also made a rub on that same cedar. Had pictures of a few bucks and does. I'm sold on it.

Deer are individuals like any other animal. I was checking traps one COLD morning and stopped in an overgrown field to pee. As soon as it hit the air this large buck exploded out of this brush pile to my left and took off. I don't know if he was bedded or standing there watching me, but take off he did. A friend told me the same thing happened to him in a tree stand. A deer had snuck in and bedded when he wasn't paying attention. Another thought is, how alert are the deer? Deer will give in to curiosity at night or in a low risk situation more readily than when they know it is hunting season.
Maybe you should try fox urine cut with fox gland lure. I had many a fox set (And trap) ruined by nosey deer.

Bullcamp82834 11-19-2013 07:28 AM

Next time I go hunting I'm taking a cooler of beer with me so I can pee on the ground every 20 minutes or so. The deer will be all over me.

Which would be best........ Bud or an expensive ale like Black Dog or Moose Drool ?

NEhomer 11-19-2013 07:47 AM

Dos Estrus from Mexico!~

A commendable position to take on the issue Green Horn.

My results from last night on the human urine test.. No good bucks yet but the deer seem to be attracted somewhat.

You must be drinking good beer.

I wonder what a few shots if Don Julio would bring in.

Note to self......... Let's give that one a try.

kenified06 11-19-2013 03:55 PM

Maybe I should drink peanut butter and grass smoothies all night tonight and maybe open all the corn in the cabinet and drink the liquid out of the cans. :)

Really glad I found this post as I won't have to carry a bottle with me to stand this weekend. Although, it makes a good hand warmer for about 15 minutes...

Grawlix 11-19-2013 04:36 PM

Well, I'll be doggoned. I've seen it all.

When I learned to do the deer hunting thing, my mentors assured me that human urine was the absolute kiss of death.

My own experience was inconsistent with that, but I NEVER figured peeing might actually be HELPFUL.

As far as Bullcamp's beer question goes, I've got to go with with some cheap, domestic light beer. You can drink more of it quicker, thus peeing more....

They were either wrong or highly misinformed ( wrong ).

Thinking Moose Drool would be the way to go. After all, moose have antlers, deer have antlers. So my thoughts are, Moose Drool would be a good cover scent since there has to be some sort of moose "stuff" in that beer. And deer wouldnt be afraid of moose (or is it meese)? :s4:

My bigger bucks have been on vacation since I shot the big 8 saturday but this deer I havent seen before moved in last night. This camera is about 40 yards from the pee scrape camera.. We will see if he starts showing any interest in the scrape.

Hmmm, That's extremely weird that human urine is working.

That might be why this doe is in the same area I took a leek in while hunting and walking around.

Whitetails are odd that way. I've seen them come right in and investigate the source of bobcat trapping scent.
Muleys not so much.

Here's a science project for you. Take a crap in a scrape that has been actively used by a buck and report back on the results. We all might learn a new trick or two from that one.

HAHA! I have left a dump in the morning before, and had deer investigate within an hour! It was one of those on you all of a sudden ones, and I didn't have time to get more than 50 yards from my stand. Two does, and a six point were so infatuated with it...the does sniffed at it for a good 2-3 minutes. They didn't confuse it with food, luckily.

Bullcamp82834 11-20-2013 01:37 PM

This thread is getting strange.

But funny !!!

kenified06 11-20-2013 05:51 PM

My uncle and brother in law both shot there very first bucks after doing number 2 in the woods. I don't mind peeing in the scrape but Im not going to do anything else in it haha.

Come on man, take one for the team (no pun) in the name of research and higher learning.

Grawlix 11-20-2013 07:10 PM

I got onto this board to learn something, and I really am!

Deer are just about as curious as they are paranoid, I guess.

NEhomer 11-21-2013 04:33 AM

Well we've covered peeing and pooping. After we get through with spitting, this threads gonna get REAL interesting!

The Green Horn Hunter 11-21-2013 08:22 AM

Ok I have jumped up on the band wagon, I have created a fake scrape and I peed on it, I have my trail camera down there running right now as I type this.

Anyways I'll find out what the results are in the next couple of days
