Hello will a single shot 12 gauge be an efficient hunter on whitetails?

Shoot the shotgun, shoot the shotgun, then shoot it some more before going to the field. Shoot it as you would in the field. If you are shooting off a bench, and that's what you are going to be shooting your deer off of great. Shoot it like your going to shoot it out in the field. And make sure you know your limits. Have fun, and be safe.
Good luck on your hunt.

Depending on the age of the gun you may be able to get a different barrel fitted to it from H&R but it will probably take six weeks or longer to get it back, if they will fit a new barrel. Otherwise practice, practice, practice. Also grey beard outdoors has a lot of H&R enthusiasts on it with some good tips for accuracy enhancements you can do yourself. Good luck.
