I always sneak in a couple dark to dark hunts the week before gun season opens. I set today and the morning/afternoon were dead with only a small fork in my turnips and a 140" 10-point sneaking through the brush. Tonight was a completely different story. I had a 130" 8-point rubbing a tree at 3:45 and standing at 8yds for far to long, very tempting. I just killed a perfect 131.5" 8-point on the 9th. (The one I killed on the 9th was dogging some does.) At 4:15 I had 4 does come out of the brush into the turnips and I immediately had 140" 8-point charge them. Within minutes an awesome 150" 10-point came charging in. They spun in circles side by side with ears back and hair up, but never locked up because the 8-point took off. The 10-point then ran the hot doe the opposite way. (Damnit, should have snort wheezed at him, hind sight is always 20-20.)
Short story long.....Yes the rut is still on and will be.
