RE: My thoughts on hunting over a bait pile.
Well I know here in California its extremely illegal to bait its even illegal to feed them outta season and like say if you were to hunt a grain field for geese after its been harvested you gotta wait 15 days and you cant hunt near it like 150 yards or something and I wish I could bait because I know it would be way more easier but oh well I guess. I also happen to know the guy across this creek is baiting something probably turkeys with some wheat or barley seeds and another seed its red and its like a ball circular something I think milo? I dunno but its in long straight piles along this road for a long distance and its in two seperate streams. Should I turn him in or what?

When was the last time you saw an 80 acre feeder? Please stop extolling your method of hunting as the only proper way to hunt.

OK, way off topic, but Nub, when you go to Ontario do you go do-it-yourself or guided? Just wondering, always wanted to go moose hunting

Aren' t those exotics fenced in? Back pic of that ten pointer. Hunters who need the deer right there right now have given in to our present society. |

Hunters who need the deer right there right now have given in to our present society What? heck yeah i like when they show up quick! Then i can get ready to hunt another! But it usually doesnt work that way even with feeders! In real life , not the fenced tv hunts, they just don' t come like that. |
RE: My thoughts on hunting over a bait pile.
I' ve never hunted over a placed bait pile, so I have no experience doing it. I do hunt near crop fields, alfalfa, and oaks..near trails. The problem is it is not knowing when and which trail the deer will use each time they do decide to enter the area. Sometimes deer will enter the field or the woods bypassing established trails. Deer will travel the interior of standing corn as much if not more than along the field edge and bowhunting a crop field is not easy. Its just another food source, not an automatic drawing card. A bowhunter especially still has to be in the right spot at the right time. For example, because of all the neighboring crop fields, the deer choose which area or field to feed in, not the hunter. If a hunter chooses to bait and its legal in his state/province, then I see nothing wrong with placing bait.
Now, if insults and attacks continue on this topic it will be locked! |
RE: My thoughts on hunting over a bait pile.
Jorgy: I do both, guided and unguided. I' m experienced enough that I don' t need a guide, but they have their benifits. My guide, also considered a friend, knows the area well. He teaches me new locations that I otherwise would never have found.
buckmine: My minds a blank this morn. GBP? Cougar: I thought we were all getting along just fine now.:D No moderating needed here. |
RE: My thoughts on hunting over a bait pile.
Whens the last time you heard a food plot go off and watched the deer come a runnin? Give me a break. Don' t matter though both [food plots and feeders] are used for the same purpose, to bring deer to you. If its legal and you like hunting that way, more power to ya. |
