My experience is extensive in bait pile style only, I know nothing about timed feeders, so I can not comment on how or what they do. I do know baiting is anything but easy & in my experience/case it was just as hard, dedicated and so on as the other forms of hunting.

I personally have baited throughout my hunting days.... Another Option you have is a food plot, this will attract deer and is just a legal way of baiting for it is a crop.

I hunt in Wisconsin also, I hope they ban baiting for good. There' s absolutely no challange in baiting. Yeah, if you dont have much time, scout while you hunt. walk around alot, its not that hard. Baiting is unethical, i dont care if its legal or not.

Hey, deerslayer!!

I' m with you 100%

I say ban it everywhere, and then we can see who knows how to hunt.

Come on down and sit n this 95* south Texas heat in November sweatin for hours at a time on a well used trail to see a doe.

Come on down and set up on a rub line in some ot the thickest brush youve ever seen while 50 head of cattle mingle thru your area and youll wonder why we bait.

No- lets go set up on a 5 acre corn patch and wait forem to walk out.

Come on down and get yu one of these and then you can talk.

For those that think any instance of baiting is less sporting than not baiting, and more than a few do,... then how do you classify these other methods of getting an edge.....please be honest with yourself.
1. Scents, either to attract or cover (doe pee, clothing, burn sticks.. etc.)
2. Calls, either to attract, ease nervousness(yours or the deer) or to cover your noisy mistakes
3. Cutting shooting lanes or trails to either make the shot easier or to " funnel" animals your way.
4. Planting food plots.
5. Hunting near natural food sources, either established agriculture or wild mast such as acorns.
6. Decoys
I would venture to say that several foks that may feel negatively about baiting have used 1 or more of these other methods to artificially gain the edge. In many states, some or all of the above are legal, but I have heard arguments for and against evreything I have listed above. If it is legal and the hunter uses any or all of these methods to take an animal in an ethical and respectful way then whats the big deal..You are not required to think like anybody else and they are not required to think like you.
There is no question that taking a big game animal with only your wiles and senses along with your knowledge of deer behavior is a very satisfying event. It is not the only way.
