International Paper is planning on selling over a million acres of timberlands east of the Mississippi in the next couple of years. It may be the end of your hunting lease. The experience I have had (I do timber work for different investors) is that land investors will buy multi thousand acre blocks, break them up and/or cut the timber and resell the land for a profit. The hunting leases are usually one of the first things to go. It seems the trend is that the timber companies are getting out of the land ownership business.

Part of our club was sold this year. It was privately owned. We are down to 1030 acres that are owned by IP, which is for sale also. At a price of 2000 an acre we are hoping that it will not sell!
