Deer can and will beat the snot out of a dog. I have seen a doe just about kill a collie when he chased her fawn. The collie was down and the doe just stomped the tar out of him. The owner of the dog chased the doe off with a baseball bat and that wasn't easy. She first turned on him til he landed a blow to her head. They can be deadly with them front feet.
