Lemond33 ,
a deer gets quite a bit of it' s water needs from the food it eats , and they will drink from whatever water is available if it' s close . I' ve seen them drink from small seeps , puddles on tree stumps , creeks , horse troughs etc. Brackish water is probably not to their liking if fresh water is available , even from a small unreliable source . They don' t neccessarily tear up the ground while drinking like they do mineral licks , are there tracks around the water hole ? . Your brackish swamp may also have fresh water sources that you' re not aware of , look for tiny fresh water spring outlets . Better yet , concentrate on finding their bedding areas .

ok thanks guys..there is the one old pit that has really clear water in it...i just didnt see a spot where they were coming to drink...no major tracks. we will see though. i will look for another source. i know of a few spots that keep standing water for a few days after a storm...there are always tracks there

Any spot that holds water , even teporarily , will attract deer if it provides cover as well . That old pit is the most likely watering hole , if they can get to it , look harder for their trail(s) .

I know here in louisiana we have alot of salt water and brackish water as well and i know for a fact they drink both cause them seem to adapt to ther surrondings and if thats all they have to drink they will.
