Default Drinking filtered water out of springs in colorado

Well fellas I was wondering what you guys thought of using a filter for drinking water? We will be at 10,000 feet and plan on having a drop camp about 3 miles in. There's just no way to carry enough water for 2days. Just worried about CWD and other things that could make me sick! AnyInfo would be helpful. Thanks

Most of the filters on the market are rated for the common "baddies" that you're likely to encounter such as giardia and cryptosporidium , they also filter out other bacteria and protozoans . When in doubt just boil the water for 10 minutes first and then filter out the microcorpses .

I don't beleive that CWD is any thing to worry about in the streams. But gardia certainly is, and other little things caused by tiny organisms are what you need to filter out. You'll be fine if you're using a "purifier" type filter!

I concur w/ Kevin1. Additionally, I've filtered water on several occasions with out any problems. If you are still concerned go into an REI store (not my favorite, don't think they like hunters) , they have a comprehensive list of filters and what they filter out. They are great at sharing info and their sales folks are usually very, very experienced with the equipment.

Get and be sure to test a good filter before you leave. I use a first need.
