If I wanted an x and someone got me a y that was nicer, I would certainly appreciate it....but I wanted an x. It's very cool that you want to get him the better scope, but he admires a well respected very good scope. Put the one he wants in his hands.

I'd also be looking at a Schmidt & Bender Summit. It's top notch to be sure. You also may wish to inquire as to FFP or SFP would be preferred. Some folks dislike one or the other.
