I have had many close encounter with deer while smokeing. Some while hunting some while fishing, mushroom hunting etc. I quit smoking six years ago but before that I always smoked and never had a problem. There is no doubt the deer can smell it but I think they smell enough smoke in their lives that they don't perceive it as a threat.

ok, u are probably not going to believe me, but what ever, i chew cop wintergreen, and i think the smell works more as a cover sent then anything, i have had a dip in with 9 does around me and they were calm as can be, and one time i had a doe come in and blow out(diwn wind, without a dip in), i was mad, so i put a dip in, the next thing i know i got 2 does and 1.5 8 point coming in on the same trail as the first doe, they didnt smell a thing, and they were down wind. idk, Just my oppinion.

I had a doe about 7yds out from my stand just tonight for nearly 20 minutes. I dip Skoal Vanilla and spit it straight down, she didn't bat an eye the entire time she was beneath me.

grizz wintergreen's where it's at...just sayin haha. I take some moss from surrounding trees/rocks and place it at the base of the tree...nice little padding for it to land on. As for it effecting the deer, personally I don't think it does one bit, just my thoughts

I always chew when hunting and it hasn't seemed to affect my success.
