RE: calling for deer
In all my years, I' ve only called up one deer with a grunt call and that was a 3 legged doe and I think she was looking for some companionship due to her hardship.
I usually just use my mouth to make a doe bleat to stop a deer if it' s in bow range.
Every year or two, I' ll buy a new call or two, last year it was the doe in estrus can but I didn' t have any luck with it.
Other people swear by the calls, it just hasn' t worked for me.
No, I didn' t shoot the 3 legged doe because she was completely healed and seemed be be getting around fine and I thought maybe some well racked buck might be following her thinking she would be an easy date.
