Default Well by howdy!

Well by howdy folks! gonna be moving WAY up north from good ol S Florida. All the way to Wisconsin!!

I'd still like to do the small game deal, and some deer for sure!! My uncle goes hunting every year, and he's gonna probably take us! But anyway, wondering a 20 guage shot gun'll work for white trails? Or is a 12 guage pretty much a must?

Thanks!

If you shoot slugs a 20 will work fine keep the shots within 100 yards and you'll be fine.

Welcome to the wonderful state of Wisconsin! Can I ask what town you're moving in to?

20 is plenty. A lot of shotgun hunters preferred 20 ga. guns. They claimed they were more accurate. Of course, this was back in the smoothbore slug days.

When I hunt Ohio, I use and actually prefer my 20 guage. I have a mossberg 500 12 guage that I have used before with litefield slugs, but my pick always seems to be the 20. I use the Remington 1100 semi auto 20 with 5/8 oz remington slugs. Flat shooting and plenty of power. (Plus a lot cheaper to shoot. Lol....) From 0 - 100 yards it is a dead deer. I wouldnt shoot over 120 yards though. With that being said, having killed over 30 deer, Im not sure I have ever had to shoot a deer with my 30.06 or any othe gun at over 100 yards. Most of my shots in Pa and Oh have been within 75 yards.

Lake Holcombe, right? A 20 with slugs is just fine. I personally prefer a 12 gauge, but 20s will do just as good.

I started out with a 20ga mosberg bolt action many years ago. My Grandkids now use it to start out hunting with. The 20ga can do just about any hunting in WI. Welcome to the Cheese and Beer State.
There are a lot of deer in your area, Good luck!

Good Ol' WI heck yeah. Thats where I'm from. You'll love it. 20 guage will be good. When u start to go south of ladysmith you start to get into agricutural fields. It will still work out to about 75 yds. Good luck. if you got any questions about WI let me know. Send me a PM. There been alot of changes in recent years with the regs. Good Luck with the move.
