Default shannondale springs WV

My dad took a job as casino manager at the new Hollywood Casino in WV. Shannondale springs is only a few miles from there in Jefferson County. Has any one had any luck hunting here before I make the drive to scout it in a week or two. I live in New Jersey so it would have to be a whole weekend affair. Thank you

Lots of freakin deer!!! Its close by me. I live in Hunt in Loudoun County VA only about 30 mins away. You will see more deer then you know what do with if you got a good spot to hunt, according to game officials on the VA side, numbers can go as high as 100 per square mile, good bucks too..let me know how it works out for you

Some turkey, no bear that I have heard. My nieghbor has hunted there for 20 years and never has mentioned bear.

Lots of squirrel also.

Yeah there are turkey, and I know occasionally you will hear about a bear being checked in on the Virginia side. So id imagine the bears are few and far between. but then again about 45 mins south of there in Virginia my friends dad sees them all the time, so it probably depends on the area you got to hunt. He actually took photos of a bear last week finishing off a deer on the side of the highway that was hit by a car. Small bear, nice 10 point too, what a waste. I need to find that email, cool pics, gross though.

One little thing to note and that is that unless you have private land that you have permission to hunt on - or a National Forest, you are going to be hard pressed to find some place where you can legally hunt deer.

I went to Morgantown WV a few years ago and to buy a license at Dicks Sporting goods and when I read the literature that came with the license I almost fell over. You can be arrested if caught on private land and the land does not have to have posted signs on it to be private or illegal to be on. They have a lot of rules down there that pertains to hunting on other peoples property or even jumping out of a vehicle and shooting at a deer.

I would make sure to read all the of laws down there and make sure you know where the boundary lines are at before you even get out of your vehicle, or you could find yourself in a lot of trouble.

I don't think that it is just as easy as driving into town, getting out of the truck. Walking into the first nice place that doesn't have any posted signs and putting up a tree stand and hunting deer. It just doesn't work like that down there.

Being from out of town and not belonging down there, you might want to look into making friends first and getting known in the local community. Knocking on some doors and asking for permission before you hunt.

Same rules apply here in NC. I just cant imagine anyone just walking onto someone's property and setting up for a hunt without permission. We had a knuckle head try that here last year. He was from delaware or somewhere. We politely warned him the first time that he couldnt just set up and hunt on our stuff and he left. Two days later he was back out in the field. He argued that he could hunt there legally until the game warden arrived and issued him his duely earned citations.
Whether its a law or not, I cant imagine someone setting up for a hunt on someone else's property.

I live in Greenbrier County, WV and work a lot of that area. Not too sure on the actuals of deer in Richwood, but the surrounding areas they are still out there. Acorns are the heaviest i have seen in years, the apple trees are still over flowing, it is extremely dry right now, with no rain called for, for 10 more days. Deer are going to be hard pressed to pattern this year as they have food everywhere. if we don't get a step up in the rain, it wouldn't surprise me if they don't do something to gun season. Yeah our laws are pretty much cut and dry. Have to have permission to hunt, and make sure you understand the laws to what counties you can shoot does, and ones you can't. The bow only counties are in the south, the rest are both gun and bow. good luck

Im sorry for the mix up, but this land is a WMA. I do not, and would never just walk on to someone property and hunt it. I will be going down in two weeks to scout the area, thank you for your help.
