best way to attach posted signs?

I attach all my signs to fence posts with a piece of plywood attached to them a little bigger than the sign. Then I put them around the property. It's a lot of work at first but they stay up and I'm not putting nails in trees. We walk our land enough to know if on is down or needs to be replaced.
