I think we all do some amount of long distance scouting from the car - if you see deer in a field, you' re going to take notice. Just remember that those same deer more than likely won' t be out in that field during season - just in the area!
This weekend, my dad and I scouted our new hunt club - it has somewhere around 4,000 acres, and we' ve only been up a couple of times so far (we became members a month and a half ago). With 4,000 acres to cover, you have to do some long distance scouting before you can hit the woods in different areas, so we drove the roads and fire trails on an ATV to get a lay of the land. Of course, that was followed up with 2 solid days of hiking through the woods, and it paid off! Two great stand sites.
