Remiongton Express Core Lokt in .30-06?
I will be deer hunting in Michigan this coming November and I have been doing some early reseacrh on the ammo. I know how everyone loves the Remington Core Lokt ammo ammo. I am stuck between the 150 grain and the 180 grain? I want to bring down the deer quick and I want it to be painless. I love hunting but I think it is cruel if the animal gets away or its a bad shot and it has to suffer. THat may be just me. Can you please help me decide which grain 150 or 180 is better for white tail deer. I dont want to rip up all the meat also.

I used both the 150 spire point & 180 roundnose when I had my 30 06.I killed deer with both rounds. IMO the 150 spire point core lokt was the better bullet in my hunting situtation.Of the 4-5 deer I shot all the sots were under 75yds.I think the jacket on the 180 is thicker & maybe that's way it wasn't as effective as the 150.

Flip a coin. I always had quicker drops with the round nose 180's. Its like splitting hairs though... all will dog stomp any deer you shoot if it goes where it is supposed to go. Ive killed them with 150's, 165's and 180's even though I do really prefer 180's.

I've always shot 180 grain Remington bullets in my Semi-automatic 30-06 but 150 grain will do just as well. Now on my Bolt-action 30-06 I bought the Remington "Managed Recoil" shells in 125 grain!

Doesn't make much difference. I used 100 gr Core Lokt in a 25-06 and they work fine on deer. I use both the 150s and 180s in a .300 Win Mag (same bullet as 30-06). The former for deer and the latter for elk. The 150s shoot flatter and faster, they expand the same. Good bullets.

The 150s will hit the deer faster at the same range, which means they will mushroom faster and cause a wider wound channel...The 150s and 165s are also made for deer sized game while the 180s are a harder bullet with a thicker jacket for bear and elk sized game...This means the 180s will mushroom less and with their heavier weight they will carry all that extra energy and dump it into the ground on the opposite side of the deer...
