I almost had one stolen 3 years ago. With fading light I arrowed a 9 pointer. I followed a good blood trail for about 40 yds., when I heard labored heavy running ahead. Figuring the hit was not as good as I thought and knowing I was very close to a main people trail I decided to track to the trail, mark it and come back in the morning. I got to the people trail, marked it and was just about to leave when I decided to shine my flashlight on the other side of the trail. Too my utter amazement there lied my buck with the addition of a second arrow stuffed into his midsection. The “new” arrow was obviously stuck there by hand after the deer died as the wound was not bleeding and there was absolutely no blood on the shaft outside the wound.
It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this “hunter” found my dead buck and stuck it with an arrow to claim it for himself. He must of got scared when he saw my flashlight coming through the woods and decided it best to leave – the running I heard as I approached the spot.
Nervous he might be going to get help, I high tailed it out of there – ungutted!!<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
Toughest drag I ever had

I shot a big 8 pt when I was a wee lad and actually had one of my friends' dad steal the thing from me. We were hunting together and I had a choice tag and he just had a buck tag. I shot the buck, he tagged it and I haven't seen it since.

Jimmy it was a little bit of an overstatement, would I open a can of whoop a$$? You bet, but no I would never kill or shoot anyone over a deer, nor would I do anything if I felt they would kill me for one. I would be POed enough to fight as long as the odds were fair.

I agree wiith Tazman, you ain't taking my deer, period. I will do anything in my power, short of landing in jail on a felony charge, to prevent this. If this means following you to your truck, getting your tag number, and showing up later at your house with my buddies, so be it. If this means pretending I agree, you did make the killing shot, then smashing you in the back of your head as you gut it, that's OK too. I'm no kind of tough guy, but I'll fight until I can't get up to prevent someone stealing anything from me, let alone my buck!
I'd do the same if I saw someone trying to steal from a kid.
All our deer are under lock and key for just this reason.

not long ago I had a gun pointed at me so 3 idiots could steal mine! To make a long story short they were caught, one is turning state evidence and we are going to court in 2 months!
Do a search in bowhunting, you'll see the story. The rack has never been found.

My hunting buddy shot a small buck on the last day a few years ago and the shot was not perfectly placed. Had a good blood trail and we followed it for about 500 yds. His cousin had heard the shot and came to help look for the deer. We lost the blood and split up looking in different directions. Heard a 4 wheeler start up and went to check it out and saw the blood trail and the wheel tracks going down the mountian. His cousin shows up a week later showing off a 5pt rack. If your relitives will steal from you anybody will.
