Default got a buck...Kinda

I was driving back to my house on Sunday morning and I saw a deer sitting on the side of the road so I turned around and went back. When I pulled up to it I saw that it was a descent buck that had its antlers tangled in a bunch of vines. I did not know what to do so I call the county sheriff. The sent an officer out and with a little further investigation we found out not only was the buck stuck but had 2 broken legs from being hit by a car. The officer told me that I could shoot the deer or he could so I told him I would shoot it while he made out a tag for me. The buck was a 2 1/2 year old 8 point that weighed about 160 lbs. He only had a 14" spreed but he had a tall rack...and a good story to go along with it.

Good deal. Nice to see deer like that not just rot and go to waste. I cringe all the time when I see people hit deer and just leave them. If nothing else, people could donate the deer to shelters.

ISnt the meat on whatever side it was hit on ruined, and depending on the impact the other meat spoiled from blood and guts? I heard that from someone....unless the are hit in just the head mos tof the meat is worthless.

it must have been a low car that hit it because both legs were broke at the joints. There was a little brusing but it was not bad Im guessin the deer was hit less then 12 hrs before i shot him so he was still good. I got probably 50 lbs of meet to take to the processer

That cop had some common sense.

I told a CPO about a cripple once and he told me to let nature take its course.

Any deer that has been hit by a car, will be mostly spoiled. You won't see it till its skined out. If it's hit in the head, maybe some of it will be ok. It also has something to do with it not being bled out when hit by a car.

About ten years ago, before law changes, by brother in law hit one and called the HP for a police report to give to his insurance company. He was informed that if they did an accident report they would have to have the deer picked up, and he would have to foot the bill for the pick up.
