How big is a big Blacktail? I don' t mean to sound stupid, but I' ve never hunted them before. Just wondering what to expect around Sitka, AK.

I hunt Columbian Blacktails. I' m not 100% sure, but I' d guess an average nice buck is probably around 130-160 live weight. Maybe someone else knows for sure?

The sitka blacktail deer are a bit larger than one might think. Body is a bit chunkier than either whitetail or mulies. As to rack size, a 100 class B & C blacktail is a really good one.

Sitkas are a smaller cousin to the Columbia Blacktail. A big bodied Sitka will weigh around the 150' s but Ihave taken Columbia' s that weighed 200 field dressed before. And it is not unusual for a mature Columbia to reach that weight.

This is a typical blacktail for our area . Some are smaller and some get quite a bit bigger . They aren' t quite the same deer you will encounter in Alaska though from what I have been told .

WOW with racks like that I wish those were typical of where I hunt. Thats got to be close to a 140?

Ya I hit that site almost daily, some of those WA. buck, I know the road system they were shot on, I' ve never hit one that big there though, guess either he got them before me or I need more patients. Probably the latter
