Default Bergmann's Law?

It states that mammals body size increases the further north you go. Stating that greater body size helps retain body temp in cold climates.

One question: Why do elephants live in Africa? Arctic fox is smaller than cape buffalo.

Just wonderin'......

It only applies to a particular species and the sub-species within its range (like whitetail deer).

The actic fox has a high ratio of body mass to surface area which is consistant with Bergman's law. But it also has short extremities which probably reduces heat loss. This is also a characteristic of native people that live in polar regions
