Default Weapons

How many different weapons have you used to take deer or other game.

I have killed deer with a 270, a 30-06, a 243, a 30-30, a black powder rifle with patch & round ball, and bow & arrow.

I've killed hogs with a 44 mag pistol, 243, 30-30, and black powder rifle.

My favorite is black powder although I'd like some day to kill a bear with my bow.

Turkeys with shotgun.

My most recent gun kills have been with my Savage smokeless .50cal and 250gr shockwaves ,that thing is a slayer! Ive also used rifles in 3006,308,7mag,44magand various 12ga shotguns and slugs. Ill be using my 7-08 this year.

All my bows have been Mathews/Missions, and Ive used muzzys, montec, and sonic broadheads.

I have often wondered how a hog is taken with a knife. Can you explain?

Thanks,

You have catch dogs, like pit bulls, holding onto the hog. You have to get to them quick, otherwise the dogs can get hurt. Once you get there, you place the knife behind the shoulder and give it a push. Some people will go through the trouble of flipping the hog or holding the back legs up, but I've never found that necessary. Keep pushing until you hit the heart. It's all pretty quick, just stay away from the sharp end of the hog .
