help with hunting apple orchard
#11
i agree. to big of a risk of bumping deer out of the orchard if you set up in it. I to live in Ny and hunt some orchards and have found deer leave them VERY earl in the a.m., alot of times still its still dark. If you are hunting there in the morning you will need to set up a few hundred yards away from the orchard towards the bedding area. Find some oaks in that transition area and then you got something!! i always thought any apple orchard would be the perfect place to hunt whitetails, but most of the orchards in my area of virginia most always get crop damage tags. in va. on damage tags you can only kill doe's but, orchards are given buck tags to keep them from horning up young trees. i hunted a orchard a few years ago with a friend and never saw a buck, then later we learned they had killed over 100 bucks before the season. the worst thing was they buried them all in one big hole.
