I'm going down there on Thursday and staying through Sunday. (Going near Aiken) Does anybody have any advice other than dress light?

Bring a Thermocell...preferably one as big as a Buick, we have mosquitos big enough to wear shoes down here.

+1. A Thermacell is a lifesaver here!

Go to Dick's Sporting Goods and get some clothing spray. It's made by Sawyers. The skeeters can't stand the permethrin in it. Trust me, it works great!

I went Saturday morning in Richland county. I saw a small doe after it was fully light, and about 20 minutes later saw a doe and a fawn together. The fawn still had spots. All three deer were so close I probably could have hit them with a rock.

I was really excited about hunting, drove down 7.5 hours from VA. I would have liked to have hunted Saturday night and Sunday morning before I left, but the friend who owned the piece of property wasn't that enthusiastic about it.

I guess when you have a 5 month hunting season, you don't get that excited about opening weekend.

I went again yesterday evening. Didn't see anything. I think it's just too hot and they're only moving at night. I did see one on the side of the road on the way home though.

My Bamberg buddy says he hasn't seen any and hasn't heard any shots fired either. I'm going to wait for a change in the weather. My bug suit should arrive tomorrow.

Bug spray, ya say?
