going for the nose sounds like a pack animal like a wolf individuals typically grab what they can get nose,tail, legs etc. and attempt to anchor down the prey then when its slowed down enough one of them then goes for the wind pipe
if you are seriously worried about whatever it is coming after you bow hunting maybe carry a side arm such as a .38 or such but make sure its a legal gun

I would be to scared to hunt there. It's probably bigfoot. I'd start hunting public land where you will have hundreds of other hunters there to help you if you get attacked. Jeeeesh!! Or just bring your mommy with you.
