I don't think it is disrespectful to smile, actually it may be the opposite. Some guys seem to think the deer is a "victory" and they have vanquished it. I smile because the deer has given me its life, and, though it is serious, it is also not to be treated as a vanquished foe.

I usually do, when I remember to, if I just hold up a mounted deer, I usually forget to smile. I know if I shot a huge monster, i'd have a smile from ear to ear, in excitement.
