Default deer slugs

at the moment im setting up my fathers new 12 ga. H&R ultra slug hunter. i want an idea of 2 or 3 different kinds of slugs to take to the range and see what kind of preformance i can get out of them. i was thinking along the lines of hornady sst, fusion, or winchester supreme XP3's. but i want to know what other people have had success with. shots will range from 20-200 yards. also should i go with 23/4" or 3".

I have had great luck w/ Winchester Partition Gold Sabots out of my Remington 1100.
Family and friends have had great luck w/ the Lightfields out of their shotguns.

Hornady SSTs shoot wonderfully out of my Remington 1100...on game performance was excellent.

Any brands as good as another to start. The gun will decide which it likes best.I'm no fan of recoil so I'd start with 2 3/4".

I use Hornady SSTs in my 20ga., try them in your 12ga., as well as the Lightfields, and as many as you can afford

I have the H&R Ultra Slug hunter as well. I have always shot the 2 3/4 LightFields out of it. It will group 3 in a 1.5 inch hole at 100 yds. Beyond 100yards, it drops like a sac of rocks. I dont know if you will get a load that will shot 200 yards very good. If you do, let me know.

thanks for the first hand advice. most of the shots are going to be under 100 yards anyways, i just want to set him up so in the even that he needs to shoot out to 200 it is attainable. even if it means a 20 inch hold over.

I would just zero at 100yds and practice at 120 or 130 and see how much it drops. YOur not going to get a 200 yard shot out of the 12ga. Its not made for that.
