If used correctly, decoys are very effective. Especially during the rut.

I have not had a lot of luck with my decoys during the rut. A few years ago I took my Renzo's buck decoy out in August just to see if I could get anything going. I set it up in a small secluded hay field and had two really nice bucks come within 10 yds of the decoy. It was hilarious watching them because they would circle the decoy , and they couldn't figure out what was going on when they got behind or directly in front of the decoy and it turned into a 1/4 inch thick deer. Finally they had enough of the nonsense and ran off blowing all the way.

I guess it could, just seems like something else to leave sent on though.

I shot the biggest doe I've ever taken with a pair of 2-D doe decoys last season, she really thought those carboard deer were real. I shot her as she began to circle downwind of them. The year before I almost got a nice buck who was scoping out a different 2-D doe deke I had set up during the rut, but he smelled a rat and took off before he got in range.

I have a buddy who puts one out at his house near the orchard and on more than one occasion found it trashed. Used at the right time I think they could help close the deal.
