RE: favorite scopes??
If eye relief is your main concern then I would say it pretty hard to beat Leupold Vari x III. Many other have great glass and reputations but as far as eye relief the Vari x III has to be considered one of the tops in that department.

The old saying that you get what you pay for definitely applies to scopes. I use a Seeadler-Optik that I like a bunch. I' ve used Nikon Monarch and Leupold that are very good scopes. I will never again waste my money on the $100 dollar specials.

3x9 Zeiss Conquest,2.5x10 Burris Signature,2.8x10 Simmons Aetec and Vari X Leupolds are the scopes that will deliver 4" or better eye relief. All other brands are 3 1/2" or less, except for handgun and a couple compacts.

I like the Leupold Vari X III as well. It seems to be a relatively popular choice for hunters in my area when it comes to a semi-reasonably priced, high quality scope.

I use Leupold Vari X II (now discontinued, known as the VX II), Leupold M8 fixed power and Burris. I also have a cheap ($) Simmons 8 point on a NEF Handi-Rifle ( it came with the rifle), I plan to replace it with a Weaver or Burris. The scope is o.k., the zero does not wander, but I like better clarity and more glass for a .223. But I have a Simmons 6.5x20x50 Whitetail Classic that Midway had on sale a few years ago for $89.99. Mounted this scope on a .22-250 Win M70 HB the zero stays put magnification is clear, thanks to the adjustable objective. Even though these 2 Simmons worked out for me I always look to Leupold first, then Burris.[8D]
