THERE IS NO REASON/PURPOSE IN ANY CIVILIAN OWNING AN SEMI AUTOMATIC RIFLE! Please explain to me how a semi automatic AR15, AK47, FS2000, SCAR, etc... etc... differs in any wayto the other "sporting" semi auto rifles other than their looks. I will change that, but won't change my opinion! Also, semi auto's are easily made into auto's.;) DUI is illegal yet people do it every single night and kill hundreds of people daily.Are you in favor of banningalcohol? Drugs are illegal and have been banned for years but have not been stopped. Billions of dollars are wasted every year fighting an unwinnable "war on drugs". Should we waste tax payers money banning them a second time because it is obvious that the criminals did not get the memo the first time. I am sure that if we told them again they would stop. NEWS FLASH... THE 2ND AMENDMENT DOES NOT PROTECT "SPORTING FIREARMS" IT IS THERE TO ASSURE THE AMERICAN CITIZEN THAT "WE THE PEOPLE" HAVE THE POWER TO ABOLISH A CORRUPT GOVERNMENT AND START OVER SHOULD THE NEED ARISE. Hunting is a provelage, you do not have the right to hunt but you do have the right to protect yourself and your family against threats by what ever means necessary. Fact: People that are going to kill another human for no reason will kill them with what ever means they have at their disposal when the time comes. Criminals do not care what laws are in place. Correct me if I am wrong here but isn't murder illegal? Is murder going to stop is we took away all semi auto rifles? Is murder with a semi auto rifles any more or less heinous than murder with a base ball bat or single shot handi rifle? Law abiding citizens do not go out and murder people or assault people. We are responsible citizens of this country. We do not change our firearms into fully automatic firearms because it is against the law. We do not go into colleges and kill every one we see. Criminals do this. There will ALWAYS be criminals in the human race. You can't do anything about it. WHat you can do is enforce all of the thousands of gun lawsthat are currently enforceable now. We could make sure that people that commit murder are in return murdered by the state instead of letting them go free in 7 - 10 years. Fact: Gun owners like yourself are the absolute biggest threat to gun ownership this country has and if this is your line of thinking I consider you a topthreat to my rights and this countries constitution and at the top of my list of enemies. |

I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading!! As many have pointed out, any restriction on guns is just one step towads an all out ban. Sorry, but it's a stupid comment for anyone to make (especially a fellow hunter), saying that I shouldn't be able to use my semi-auomatic 12ga to hunt pheasants or my ruger 10/22 to plink gophers... Divide and conquer, that's how this stuff happens - that's why all gun owners need to stick together. I don't currently own an AR-15 or pistol, but I'll fight tooth and nail to keep my rights to be able to own one in the future....
Sure seems like the media is buttering up the americian public for a new push for more restrictive gun regulations.... Drunk and impaired drivers kill way more many people than guns ever will, but yet you rarley hear anything from the media calling for more restirctions and the majority of DWI accidents don't even make the news.... |

ORIGINAL: muzzlenut early in, I have to disagree with you. A restriction of semi-automatic rifles would be a first step toward much more restrictive gun legislation. It is true that some Semi-automatic's can be made automatic relatively easily but that is against the law. It seems to reason that if a person is willing to break the law buy altering their firearm then they would be willing to break the law and find a way to get an automatic on the black market. Something that is not that hard to do either. I have a Marlin Model 60 .22 rifle. It is a tube fed semi-automatic. Should that be illegal also? What about handguns that are semi-automatic? I respect your opinion but I still have to respectfully disagree. |

Just me two cents worth.
I agree with Bigbulls, I am a law enforcement officer and our biggest concern for line of duty deaths are vehicles and not weapons. More officers are killed in the line of duty by vehicle accidents than all other ways combined. More people in this country are killed by vehicles than guns but we don't hear about the govt trying to ban vehicles. Driving is not even a Constitutional Right like the Right to Bear Arms,it is a privledge that requires great responsibility like owing guns does. I am willing to make a bet with anyone that if you but a loaded gun on a table and nobody touches it at all, then I would guarentee that gun would not kill/hurt anyone. It is not the gun that kills/hurts people it is the person behind it who pulls the trigger that kills/hurts people. I work in DC where they have some of the toughest gun control laws in the country. If gun control works so well then why does this city take guns of the street weekly if not daily. Lets enforce the laws we do have and also start lobbying the judges in the court system to keep dangerous PEOPLE off the streets. |

Whats the diff between these rifles? Nothing! All semi's should be illegal. Why? Because of their ability to spit bullets out at an undefendable rate, often at distances that can't be achieved with ordinary handguns. My thinking isn't a threat either, because I'm not saying take all guns, just the semi automatic rifles. I hunt only with a bow and you almost never get a second shot anyway. Your other analogies are unrealistic. Just for the record I didn't vote for Obama, but he just might be the man who takes your semi off of you. One other thing, I'm not the originator of this line of thought either.;) |
