let me think. why won't she let you hunt? is it because she thinks hunting is creul or what. all i can say is get some one that hunts to take you out. then she will let you maybe. like i hunt all the time but when i wanted to try bow hunting my mom said no because she thought that bow hunting you injur an animal track it and then kill it. so i called up my uncle(an avid bow hunter)to talk to my mom and she finaly let me go.

hope this helps

Can you hunt with other family members?

If so you can approach it from the standpoint that whatever you can do as a family is important.

"Families that play together, stay together".

Also, many women do not hunt and miss out on having an appreciation for not only the forests and land, but for the animals as well. My wife has killed a deer before, but does not hunt very much at all. Because of her exposures to the out-of-doors she has a great appreciation for nature. We live out in the woods, and spend a majority of our time as a family out-of-doors doing something, an aspect of our relationship that has made us closer as a family.

Lastly, hunting is a very, very, safe activity, and this can be backed up by numerous statistics.

Good Luck! Most of the outdoor women I know are hard working, caring, and are in touch with life a little more than others. Hunting is a very positive focus, and many quality relationships can be found through hunting contacts.

Hello HNI Visitor. Welcome to our message board. You can tell your mom that I started taking my oldest daughter deer and small game hunting when she was 12. She had expressed a lot of interest in it as young as 10 but I waited until she was a little older. I convinced my wife who shared the same skepticism as your mom that she would be safe and never out of my sight. Well, I can tell you that after that first day of deer hunting in Virginia, she was definately hooked. She's 25 now and lives in Las Vegas now and doesn't have much time to hunt anymore, but she still wants to go badly. When she has more time, I'd love to take her again. Before she was grown and gone on her own, some of the best and most memorable times we shared together were during our deer and small game hunts. We had a blast and I sure do miss her being with me. She is by no means a "Tom Boy" and is very much lady-like so tell you mom not to worry about the fact that you are a girl and want to hunt. More and more women are into shooting sports (including hunting) than ever before. If you get a chance to learn to handle a gun properly (NRA Hunter Safety Courses are a must!) and have trusted friend or relative (Dad's are the best...but that's my biased opinion)to teach you to hunt safely and ethically, you will have outdoor experiences that will last you a lifetime. There is nothing "unlady-like" the sport of hunting and I wish you all the luck in the world. All mom's worry and there really isn't a safer Outdoor sport that I know of. Good luck!!

Vinny

I would invite her to attend a hunter safety course with you.She may be surprised to see
how many other girls are there, some may even be with their mothers,Sometimes seeing is believing. Also she may be worried about your safety and the course may be just the ticket.

Here in Minnesota there's an organization called B.O.W. I believe it stands for Becoming Outdoor Women. They have Weekly or monthly meetings and seminars. It doesn't say where you are from but with a little research I'm sure that there are clubs like that around you. You and your mom and sisters could attend one of the meetings as a guest I'm sure. Give it a try and good luck.

HNI Visitor, tell your mom about all of the great things about hunting. Being in the woods, respect for nature, skills such as tracking, orienteering (compass), shooting, add to that personal discipline, physical fitness, patience, persistance, and personal responsibility. Tell her that those skills are not for boys only <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> and that hunting teaches you all of those skills and more!

There are several of us &quot;huntin' women&quot; on the board here - if you have a computer you can use, why don't you join the board and hang out with us. I think you'll find it rewarding and it will prepare you for the discussion you need to have with your mom as fall approaches.

By the way, do you have someone reponsible that your mom repsects to hunt with? That will go a long way toward making sure she is comfortable that her baby is safe in the woods.
