What is your favorite whitetail medicine? Manufacturer and type but not so much caliber. I want to make a great deer stopper for my .308 and would appreciate all your favorite bullet picks.

140 gr. or 160 gr. Sierra Spitzer boattail out of my 7 X 57 1903 Steyr Mannlicher, at moderate speeds (2500 fps).

140gr ballistic tip at 3500fps out of my 7mmstw.They drop or take a few steps then drop but I never have to track a deer.

130 grain core lokts out of a .270.

If I was using a .308 then, as long as they were accurate, I would use 150 grain core lokts.

Would everybody include mule deer with this discussion? They are a little bit larger, but not anywhere near the size of elk. Do you consider any bullet that works well on whitetails would work as well on a large mulie as well?

Where I hunt the whitetails are as large as the mules so I use the same loads for both.It is quite common to see mature bucks of both species exceed 300lbs live weight.

I concur with Stubblejumper! The Nosler Ballistic Tip or Horandy SST are my favorite deer bullet, Whitetails or Mules.

Yes, a mule deer isn' t that much bigger than a full grown whitetail. And like stubblejumper said in the northern parts of the country they are about the same size.

I tend to think that the best whitetail medicine would depend on what bullet/load that your .308 shoots the best. I tend towards Winchester 165 gr. Ballistic Silvertips, myself.
