I wouldn't have either one myself. As I have had both

I have a browning gold I like a bunch. Also a savage bolt I like.

I almost bought the Savage bolt when they first came out years back.
Tell us more, as I am too going to buy a slug gun in 2009,
instead of spending $500 for a barrel for my Benelli Super Black Eagle.
Hint-hint, anyone selling a brrel?!

They are very accurate, but stock is crap. You have to pillar bed and glass bed. I haven't found a place that makes a stock for them like mcmillian or boyds. But it needs it.

No doubt go with the Rem. 870 slug. I shoot one and love it. And in my opinion is the best pump shotgun to date.

IMO, any shotgun would work.

I own a Mossberg 500 12 gauge, which i use as a universal shotgun. Dove, clays, and when my rifle ain't sighted in, or i'm hunting close range or thick woods where my rifle ain't a need, i use it as my slug gun. I shot my button buck this year with it and dropped him in his tracks, 'round 20-30 yards in a firebreak.

The 870 can be just as accurate as the H & R, both are great guns. I think it comes down to fit and feel.

You guys got to be kidding me if you think the 870 makes a good slug gun??? I have never been able to get one to shoot under 2MOA yet. And I have had a few.

I love my 1187 with cantilever barrel but the thing is a tank! I don't know what it weighs in at with it's 2x7 leopold on it but it's GOTTA be heavier than the H&R. It sure is a lot more than my 1100.

I was thinking on picking up an H&R but if it weighs as much as the 1187 not much point. I was also told the H&R was front end heavy with poor balance. Is that the case??
