I'm going to be setting up a stand in the spring. Before I buy something, I'd appreciate some feedback on the pros and cons of a ladder vs a hanging stand. Thanks.

Ladder stand: Pros- easy set up, easy to get in and out
Cons-stick out
Hang-on: Pros- more comfortable,
Cons- hard to get in and out, hard to set up,
That is what i have found out. I have two of each

If you want to move the stand alot go with the hang on....if not then go with the ladder. Deer will not notice a ladderstand what so ever. Ive killed a ton of deer from them as well asseveral large old bucks. I like how easy a ladder is to get into without making noise. I love the ladder stand.

I use a lone wolf hange on when I hunt off my own property .
Downfall is screwing in pegs and hanging the stand .
Although I put extra staps and supports on it I feal safer with a ladder style stand .
My ladder style stands are more or less permanent .
There hand biult using pressure treated lumber and they are very stable .
2 of my ladder stands are enclosed .
Down fall is weather biult or bought ladder stands are heavy and cumbersome .

Get both your gonna need them,I know here in indiana on public ground you cant use screw in steps,
i see your putting it up in the spring so i would say you are hunting private, but will you be in public
ground with it at all ? just something to think about

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LADDER STANDS UP YEAR ROUND!!!!! the bolts rust very fast ,tubing fills with water and freezes. i've seen 2 stands break after being left up all season, they were both rated for 300lbs and broke with less then 200lbs on them. .
i have 5 lockons,4 ladderstands and a climber. i'd rather hunt out of a ladderstand. i usually buy the cheaper ladderstands at walmart or dicks sporting goods when on sale and then i add to them . most cheaper stands are rated for at least 300lbs but dont have shooting rest. i have conduit bender so i just make my own shooting rail.
